After leading much of the GB4 Championship season, Sweden’s Linus Granfors claimed the title with a race to spare on Sunday at Brands Hatch.

With six wins to his name and four additional podiums, Granfors secured the title with a 45-point gap to his nearest rivals. Here’s the full thoughts from the new champion.

“It’s a great feeling to win the championship, of course,” he said. “That was the very clear target going into the weekend, and that’s what we achieved. This is the most significant success yet in my career and I really want to thank my team, Fortec Motorsport, for giving me a quick car all year. Now I’ll celebrate with my family tonight before going back to Sweden tomorrow.”

The GB4 title is Granfors’ third crown in car racing, adding to his success in Aquila Formula 1000 and Formula Nordic, though his first outside of Scandinavia.

“It’s been a great season. It’s been a lot to learn; all new circuits, a new car, a new language in engineering, but it’s gelled from session one. We started out with a new lap record at Silverstone in pre-season testing, and then we’ve just kept going. I’ve felt really confident with the car and we’ve done our homework every weekend.

“It’s a season in which I’ve developed a lot, and winning the title is the ultimate reward for everyone involved.”

Granfors’ earns a £50,000 career contribution from MSV towards a drive in either British F4 or GB3 next year, and the Swede is aiming to follow in his brother Joel’s footsteps by racing in the latter.

“We’ll celebrate this now, but hopefully we can start planning for next year soon. We’re planning to do GB3 next year, but we don’t know yet, time will tell!”
